Dubai’s Emirates NBD has launched what it calls the UAE’s first bank-led AI travel assistant, built with Visa and Tripadvisor. The conversational tool asks users for their preferences, budget and travel style, then returns itineraries and destination suggestions drawn from Tripadvisor’s database of more than 1 billion reviews and 8 million listings, according to the bank’s announcement on 5 October.

The mechanism matters more than the novelty. The service is free and needs no account, and the bank uses it to surface Visa cardholder offers such as hotel discounts and car rental deals. The assistant is the entrance; card spending is the exit. For Visa, placement inside a chat a traveller already trusts keeps its network in front of the purchase decision. For Tripadvisor, it is another distribution surface for its review database.

The bank said the assistant has deeper customisation for the 15 destinations most popular with UAE travellers, a market where the average resident plans seven trips a year. Emirates NBD cited research that 50% of consumers across EMEA are comfortable booking holiday accommodation through AI platforms.

The planning-behaviour claims come from the companies themselves. Whether the assistant changes how people book is untested; adoption and engagement figures have not been published.

Emirates NBD is one of the region’s largest banks, with more than 25 million active customers and AED 1.3 trillion in total assets as of 30 June 2026, per its release. The assistant is available in English via the bank’s website and a Tripadvisor domain.
